The college is a community of scholars of social welfare and social work. Its members are dedicated to the pursuit, advancement and transmission of knowledge in the area of social welfare policy in the state and in the country. Through the scholarly and educational endeavors of its faculty and students, the college is committed to the promotion of social justice and harmony. The college strongly believes in excellence in instruction and practice. It expects both the students and faculty to engage in educational tasks and research.

To foster excellence in our teaching, research and service.
To prepare students with the attitudes, skills and habits of lifelong learning and leadership skills, enabling them to be useful members of a global society.
To be an exemplary institution; and
To conduct research projects for state and central governments.

To reach this end we work and judge ourselves by the most demanding standards; encourage ourselves and students to be bold, independent and creative; provide infrastructure to support teaching, research and service.

Indian Council of Social Welfare incorporated as a registered society in 1954 is an action-oriented body with interest in the area of family and child welfare, physically and mentally impaired persons, health services, education and community development. The council is governed by an Executive Committee of 21 members with the President as the Chief Executive.

Nawaz Jung Cancer and Radium Institute and Aram Ghar. The council honours its founder President’s memory by presenting awards to personalities with exemplary achievement in Welfare Work and Community Development.

As an extension of its activities it has started the first College of Social Work in Andhra Pradesh in the year 1966 with a Diploma Course. In 1972 a three years Degree Course was started. In the year 1985-86 the College was upgraded as a P.G.Centre and subsequently recognized to offer Ph.D. Degree in 1992. The college is affiliated to Osmania University. The college has been renamed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as Roda Mistry College of Social Work & Research Centre (ICSW-AP) from the academic year 2001-2002 and it has been shifted to its newly constructed campus at Gachi Bowli.

ICSW also started Women’s Employment Scheme, industrial Co-operative Centre Ltd., in 1957 to help destitute women economically. In the year 1956 with the abolition of Jagirdari system, many families were left with no home and no income. The women of such families were provided training and self employment to alleviate their problems.

Aram Ghar, a home for physically impaired persons, is situated on a sixteen acre plot at Shivarampally, Hyderabad.

Donations are exempted from income tax under section 80 G of the income tax act.
