Extension Activities


FIELD WORK / EXTENSION PROGRAMMES OF THE COLLEGE

 

  1. Students of MSW are involved in health projects in collaboration with Shreya Foundation in creating awareness about health and hygiene in the slums and also training high school students in creating awareness about sanitation personal hygiene in their community.

  2. MSW students are involved in conducting PRA of the village of Turkapalli of Nalgonda. The students were involved in plantation work (Harita Haram) awareness on education. Conducting sports competitions etc..

  3.  Worked on Drinking water facility in Nizambad. In collaboration with  SACIWATERs.

  4. MSW students were involved in the educational programs in conducting examinations for scholarships for educational support in govt schools in collaboration with PRAVINYA organization in Medak Dt.

  5. Students of MSW supplied CD’s on Mathematics and Physics in govt schools in Hyderabad.

  6. MSW students worked for vocational training program for Women in Sheikpet nala slum in Hyderabad in collaboration with Kriti Social Imitative’ (organization).

  7. BSW students conducted awareness program on education, health , alcoholism etc. in the slums of Hyderabad.

  8. Awareness programs were conducted for the health & hygiene practices in Attapur slums.

  9. Rally was conducted to create awareness about precautions that should be taken during emergencies like bombblasts. Volunteers, Doctors, Nurses worked during emergencies were felicitated in collaboration with COVA.

  10. College students and faculty conducted campaign on girl child in collaboration with Plan International Mothers of single girl child were felicitated.


OUT REACH PROGRAMS

  • The college students of MSW worked in collaboration with ‘Child Line’ in helping street children. The awareness program about education and also provided counseling services in needed areas in Medak Dt.
  • The students of MSW intervened in stopping child marriages in Sangareddy and also created awareness about the issue.
  • In collaboration with Lepra India awareness about female condom promotion to commercial sex workers was organized.
  • Educating children of commercial sex workers in collaboration with Chaitanya Mahila Mandali was takenup.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CELL – PRABHAV was started during the academic year 2009-10. The cell is supervised by the Principal as Chairperson, Dr B. V Jagadish as Director and students from BSW and MSW sections of the college are enrolled as volunteers.

BSW final year and MSW first year students are placed for their concurrent field work training in the cell.


Objectives Of the Cell

 

  • To initiate college involvement on the burning issue of domestic violence.
  • To provide training to the student social workers and practice social work profession in the area of domestic violence.
  • To coordinate with the governmental departments and non-governmental organizations   working in the field of domestic violence.
  • To develop a network of stake holders to mitigate domestic violence in twin cities
  • To under take awareness campaigns, training programme's, workshops and conferences on domestic violence.
  • To form small women’s groups at the community level – slums, apartments and residential colonies to deal with the cases of domestic violence.
  • To document the information on domestic violence to undertake counseling and advocacy for victims of domestic violence.
  • To facilitate the rehabilitation of the victims of domestic violence.


Plan Of Action

 

  • Orienting stakeholders particularly the women on the legal provisions of the Domestic Violence Act 2005.
  • Formation of women’s action groups to deal with cases of domestic violence in their residential localities.
  • To procure and develop various material such as songs, charts, slogans, street plays, photos, videos etc. on domestic violence.
  • To collect information  on issues pertaining to domestic violence published in the print media, newspapers, magazines, journals, books etc.,
  • To arrange legal assistance to victims of domestic violence belonging to the lower socio-economic strat.

 

During the year 2009- 2010, students have created awareness  and educated the  leaders of the Self Help Groups in the urban slum communities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad about the provisions of the DV Act. The cell  has also had discussions with social activists, counselors from various organizations both governmental & non-governmental working in the field of domestic violence.
